There are many aspects to good web site design. Various website design elements come into play from the creative requirements though to extremely complex technical and programing aspects.

The main purpose of good web site design is develop a site that is asthetically pleasing to view with easy navigation to the content that you want to view. Indeed the design and layout needs to suggest to you what you should be viewing on the website as a priority. Once it has acheived those objectives it needs to be able to deliver the information in a fast and efficient way so that there are no long waits for pages to load or half a dozen clicks required to get you to the information you require.

Menu layouts and graphics all play there part in making your website usable and interesting to people that visit it. If you are selling or marketing a service or producct on the internet the design should gently lead people to enquiring for more information or even purchasing directly online if the site is so equipped. Methods of being able to contact you should appear and multiple points through the site so that people can contact you at precisely the point they have found information the want to know more about.

From a creative point of view a website may look really good purely with fancy graphics but we do believe that good photographs can help add "life" to your website too. A smiling face on a photograph can make a site much more welcoming or convey a point better than any graphic ever could. To that end we always instruct our creative designers to make allowance for photographs on the site that will complement the meaning and concept of your web site.

Even the layout of text is important. Nice bite sized paragraphs of information are easier to read and are less daunting than a massive block of text that has no breaks in it. Because of the way the search engines index web sites we need to get a fair amount of text onto a page to work our magic for you so it is important that the text is always informative and easy to read or the search engine robots will love it but not the average reader. 

Balancing the requirements of search engine requirements (text) and reader requirements (concise and clear) is a difficult to achieve objective. Search engines do determine that a few hundred words on a page are the pages most likely to be of interest to someone and the most informative which is why they don't see pictures they only see text...

Of course it is a combination of all these aspect that evenutally gives your web site the look and feel that will either encourage people to use your product or service or put them off. It is impossible to get it right for every single person but if you can get it right often enough then you will see your sales figures rise.
